Fall Fun

Fall has always been one of my favorite times of the year. The crisp, cool air is always a refreshing change after one of Georgia’s hot summers.

Some of our favorite activities happen in the fall. There are festivals and fairs, annual visits to Burt’s Pumpkin Patch, Trunk or Treating, and playing in the leaves. We love pulling out cool weather clothes and making the transition from shorts and sandals.

This year my husband, daughter, and I dressed as Uncle Si, Willie, and Godwin from Duck Dynasty for our church’s Trunk or Treat. It was fun watching our friends’ reactions to me and Sarah in camo and beards.

My children look forward to fires in the fireplace and roasting marshmallows. Okay, Cupcake loves the fires too.

Sometimes in October, but usually in November, we begin counting down the days until Christmas. We started early this year. I think my youngest daughter started counting when it was 57 days until Christmas. Now that’s enthusiasm!

I have always enjoyed shopping on Black Friday and now that my girls are a little bit older they enjoy going with me too. I liked it better when the stores considered opening at 6:00 a.m. to be early. Now they are opening on Thanksgiving Day. I refuse to go to the stores on Thanksgiving. I think it is important to be with family (not just me and my family, I think the people who work at those stores should get the day off too) that day and I am not going to go shopping on Thanksgiving.

Now that my children shop with me, we head out around 5:00 in the morning.  Last year we started a new tradition of making the drive to Buford, Georgia and shopping at the Mall of Georgia. We are excited about going back there this year. We each have our favorite stores that aren’t available at our local mall and the variety and selection is awesome.

Fall isn’t complete without putting out seasonal decorations. Leaves, owls, pumpkins, turkeys, dried flowers, well the list goes on and on. Here is Cupcake “helping” with Fall decorating. I guess he interprets Fall literally judging by the scarecrow that is “falling” over in the background. Hmmm…I wonder how that happened?

Enjoy this beautiful weather!

  1. I agree whole heatedly about the Thanksgiving store opening. Let’s leave being open on Thanksgiving to foreign owned gas stations and Chinese restaurants. Just in case a pack of dogs storms your house and steals your turkey dinner.
