Joy Christmas Tray

Joy 31

While attending the Haven Conference this year with other DIY bloggers, I had the opportunity to decoupage this cute tray from Pier One at the Cottonelle booth. The papers they had to choose from were nice but none of them really went with my décor. I made one anyway with purple and gold patterned paper.

This week I was walking through Hobby Lobby admiring the Christmas decorations when I came up with an idea for my tray. I would make it into a Christmas wall hanging.

I picked up my supplies: scrapbook paper, wooden letters, cranberry-colored paint, and sponge brushes. I already had Mod Podge and my glue gun at home.

I decided to go with a simple, old fashioned look and the word JOY.

I painted the letters with the sponge brush. This took two coats, three coats in a few places.

Next I cut out my scrapbook paper to fit in the tray. I Mod Podged it directly over the purple and gold paper.

I let it dry for about fifteen minutes and then I hot glued the letters to the tray.

This will look great hanging in my kitchen against the green walls.

That is a great way to re-purpose I really like the red with the dark wood.
