Vintage Art Deco Salt and Pepper Shakers

I don't like saying it but last month's World's Longest Yard Sale was disappointing. Not only were there not as many sales to shop, there seemed to be a much higher percentage of antique dealers with antique store retail prices almost everywhere we stopped. I bought the least amount of "treasures" than I had in previous years. With that being said, I did find a treasure trove  of vintage Art … [Read more...]

A Box Full of Aprons

Last month while shopping at an estate sale in Tallapoosa, Georgia, I came across a storage box tucked away underneath a table in the carport. I carefully pulled it out and was quite pleased to find that it was stuffed full of vintage aprons. Twenty seven aprons to be exact. I quickly tracked down Steve Lott, owner of Lott's Treasures, who was running the sale, and immediately negotiated a great … [Read more...]

A Creepy Doll Collection

I came away from last Friday night's auction with some great finds.  Some high end newer furniture, a few antique pieces of furniture, vintage puzzles, doilies, and children's books, and..... a collection of older dolls (which were immediately referred to as "creepy dolls" by friends of mine attending the auction). I don't know much about older dolls. I could just tell these had some age on … [Read more...]

So Many Flowers

Last week a friend of mine posted on Facebook that she was in the process of downsizing and needed to sell some furniture and miscellaneous items. While professionally she had worked for years as a nurse, she spent much of her free time making gorgeous flower arrangements, wreaths, and other decorative items. While this was a  hobby that she had been passionate about for years, she felt God was … [Read more...]

U.S. Highway 11 Antique Alley Yard Sale

I think I may have found a new favorite highway yard sale. It is the U.S. Highway 11 Antique Alley Yard Sale and it runs from Meridian, Mississippi to Bristol, Virginia. It takes place the weekend after Mother's Day and it is 502 miles of yard sale awesomeness. I went on Thursday, the first day of the sale and there were lots of vendors with great deals all along the highway. Since I was only … [Read more...]

Opening a New Booth at Oz Antique Market

After having an antique booth in Douglasville, Georgia at Ben's Furniture and Antiques for almost three years, I had decided it was time to try something new. Ben's is a great shop with helpful employees, great vendors, and amazing antique and vintage items and I have been happy with my sales there. But since Ben's was the first place I have ever had an antique business, I wanted to open … [Read more...]

Best Auction Find of the Year

Earlier this month I found what probably has to be my best auction find ever. While I enjoy attending local auctions in person, I also like to shop online auctions too. Sometimes prices go crazy high and sometimes you can get things for an incredible deal. Well this was the great deal. I have been wanting to purchase a china hutch for a while to go in my breakfast room but I hadn't been able to … [Read more...]

Shopping Scott Antique Market

Last week I did something I have been wanting to do for years. I drove over to Jonesboro, Georgia and spent the day exploring the Scott Antique Market. Now I have friends and family that go on a regular basis but I just never made time to go myself. Now that I've been, I have to say that I want to go back again and again. The Scott Antique Market takes place the second weekend of every … [Read more...]

New Display Space for My Booth

Last month I was walking through Ben's, the antique store where I have my booths when I saw some really awesome items in a friend's booth. It was two older display cabinets. I immediately inspected them but couldn't bring myself to buy them. I finally did buy them both,  about a week apart. Both of these pieces came from an old hardware store in Powder Springs, Georgia. They are both hand-made … [Read more...]

The Hwy 31W Treasure Hunt – Shopping in Kentucky and Tennessee

Last weekend we decided to try a new highway yard sale, the Hwy 31W Treasure Hunt. This sale takes place every year during the second weekend of September. It is a 150 mile yard sale that goes from Nashville, Tennessee to Louisville, Kentucky. We started in Nashville and made it to Horse Cave, Kentucky. The best sales were definitely in Kentucky. We actually didn't find that many in Tennessee. … [Read more...]
